Bakery

I have time for a nice sit-down breakfast before work. Giant cinnamon bun, anyone?

Numb-ers

Highs and lows. Welcome home. Sigh.

Lounging

How did she get so much older in a week?

Big pan man

A giant pan of yummy paella? Don't mind if I do.

Notice the induction cooker. No open flames in the cruise ship kitchen.

View from my beach chair

Those black lines crossing the sky are a zipline. I preferred to lie back and let the world zip past me.

Oh, grandest of buffets

Overlooking the grand midnight buffet in the dining room.

Another day in paradise

Paradise Point (aptly named), St. Thomas. Must find job in U.S.V.I. A.S.A.P.

Parallel parking

Just pull in next to that Holland America ship. Check your mirrors ... nice and easy ... aaaand parking brake on.

Formal night

First formal night on the cruise. We just had to promenade down the dining room staircase. Showoffs.

Hello, melon!

Aboard our cruise ship! The melon in the buffet is happy to see me.

The Cheeses of Johnny V

Johnny V's restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale has an impressively lengthy cheese list. (The cheeses themselves ... not so impressive. Most are easily available at any gourmet grocer.) Johnny V is also known for his Iron Chef America loss (Battle Citrus).

Frequent flyer

Ellen likes to go "on an airplane in the sky!" She even knows she's going to "Shah-go."

Leaving on a jet plane

Bags are packed, we're ready to go... on a 7-night Caribbean cruise, that is! This will be my last update on the site for a while, but I'll fill in all the missing days when I get back.

Nice rack

We have too many pots and pans. Notice that I'm slowly replacing some of the nonstick with much nicer All-Clad.

I'm proud of my stud-finding ability. After four years, this still hasn't brought the ceiling down on us.

A place for everything

Is day care where you learn to think inside the box?

Hot lunch

Bitter, bitter cold today. Brasa to the rescue with a bowl of aged cheddar grits and a slow-roasted rotisserie chicken sandwich with hot sauce and cabbage/cilantro slaw.

Primary colors

Having a toddler means introducing brightly colored plastics into every household scene.

Puppet Master

A little entertainment before lunch.

I desperately needed caffeine before going into work.

There's nothing Ellen enjoys more than looking at "baby Ellen."

Mortality -- now with software!

Having a kid means we have to take this kind of stuff seriously. Dammit.

Soup's on

After four days of a crappy sore throat, a nice bowl of warm udon is very soothing.

The Brazilian Original

This is what I'm drinking today. We bought a case of it at the "global market." Add lime and ice, and it's not bad. I think I prefer ginger ale.

Brightly colored world

A glimpse over the Lego store at the Mall of America. Lego rocket man is flying toward Lego Earth. Can you see Lego Moon hanging over the Johnny Rockets?

I'd like to live in a Lego World.

Mm, mandarin oranges.

My new Mac is keen.

Anyone want to go sit in the courtyard, catch a few rays?

Bitter cold, bright sun. It's January in Minnesota.

First entry

Welcome to my Project 365 blog. I originally started this on a mac.com site on January 1, 2008. For 2009, I've decided to port over to blogger. I liked mac.com's integration with iWeb, but the site itself kinda blew.

For those who don't know, the goal of a Project 365 blog is to post one picture each day, to try to capture within that image something about your life and interests. As you'll see, I don't quite make the one-per-day threshold, but I do post at least a few times every week.

So here is my first entry, from January 1, 2008. Enjoy.

When it gets cold enough, it's like we have one big patchwork cat.
